Battery+: A Review

Maximize Your Pebble Time Battery Life with Battery+

There are plenty of apps available for Pebble these days, some are better than others. Battery+ is one those apps that is both good-looking and useful. If you’re hoping to learn more details about whether or not you are getting the most out of your Pebble’s battery life and you want to maximize Pebble Time battery life, Battery+ is the way to go.

Battery+ was developed by Ycleptic Studios. The app has several screens that shed light on your usage stats for your Pebble. The first screen gives you both the percent remaining and time remaining, in days and hours. By pressing the Select button on this screen you can also see your current run time and what your current battery notifications are. The time remaining feature can be very helpful if you have a Pebble Time Round with a shorter battery life, and it’s more specific than the “You have until this evening” Pebble notifications.

You can also customize when you get warnings in the Settings screen, which you can access by pressing and holding the Settings button. The next screen in the app is a bar graph with the last 9 charge cycles. The blue part of the bar represents the total time you could have gone before charging your Pebble again, and the green is the actual time you went before charging again. If you’re trying to maximize your use, then you’d want to see as little blue on your bars as possible, meaning that you got the most time out of your charge that you could. Pressing the Select button on this screen also shows you some additional run time details.

Following the Charge Cycle screen is the Record screen. It shows you the longest amount of time your Pebble has run on a single charge. My current record is 1 day and 22 hours, which given the Pebble Time Round’s expected battery life of 2 days, is not a bad record. The final screen is the Percent screen, which shows a line graph of the runs times during the previous week.

    • Battery+ gives you more accurate estimates of the time remaining before you need to recharge than the built-in Pebble alerts, and you can set customized alerts based on this information. This allows you to get every last hour out of each charge based on your schedule, thereby maximizing your battery use.

    • I’m sure any app running in the background has a negative effect on battery life, the question is more about the degree of the effect. I usually gauge that effect by whether or not I notice that I’m charging more frequently (very scientific, I know). I haven’t noticed that I’m charging more frequently with it running, so I would say any impact is minimal or at least not noticeable to me.
