Reminders on the Pebble Time with SLATE

My usage relies heavily on Google’s calendar and voice reminders. After browsing through the Pebble app store, I found the perfect daily companion in the app SLATE. With everything that the Pebble Time has to offer, it’s nice to see an app take full advantage of the upgrades Pebble managed to fit into the smartwatch.

As an avid calendar user I was thrilled when Pebble Time was announced to have a new feature built into the OS called Timeline. Once I got my hands on the Pebble Time (and more recently the Pebble Time Round) I immediately fell in love with the software. Being able to quickly glance at my upcoming day while keeping my phone tucked away in my pocket made the Pebble Time software an instant success in my book.

Thanks to the Pebble app’s Timeline-ready apps section I stumbled upon an app that instantly became a must-have on my Pebble Time Round. The app also works perfectly on the Original Pebble Time as well as the Pebble Time Steel.

SLATE from the developer Wristy Business touts itself as the Siri equivalent of Pebble and in my opinion, it comes pretty close.

Slate’s main objective is to handle reminders input directly through the watch’s built-in microphone. Once the dictation is captured, it confirms that the reminder was successfully captured and then adds it to the appropriate spot on the Pebble’s Timeline.

Slate’s one caveat is that the lingo used has to follow a very specific formula. I’ve only found myself stumbling with this a few number of times during everyday use, but it is something to make note of. It only takes a few times to get used to the required verbiage but once you’ve got it down, this app is invaluable.

I’ve been using this application almost every day since the launch of the original Pebble Time and I haven’t found anything quite as reliable as Slate. From something as simple as ‘move the  laundry to the dryer,’ to the more imperative ‘Dr. appointment tomorrow at noon,’ Slate does a fantastic job as a simple reminder app – and the best part is that I don’t have to rely on my phone to set them.

The developer has a ton of functions in the works right now and I can’t wait to see what SLATE does next. Whether you’re rocking the original Pebble Time, the Pebble Time Steel or the Pebble Time Round like me, I definitely recommend checking it out!

Apple has Siri. Microsoft has Cortana. Now Pebble has Slate.
