Michael Connick is a retired Management IT Consultant currently living in the state of West Virginia in the USA. He has been actively involved in personal mobile technology since the earliest days of the Apple Newton and Palm PDAs. He was a contributing editor to PalmPower magazine. His first experience with a "smartwatch" was wearing a 6th generation iPod Nano on his wrist. The Pebble Time is his first true smartwatch and he has become a real fan of it.

My current favorite app for the Pebble Time is Nav Me. I went for a couple hour drive today and found out just how useful it is. In the past when I’ve used the turn-by-turn directions of the Google Maps app on my phone, I’ve always felt like I had to juggle my phone to see upcoming turns. Nav Me syncs with Google Maps and allowed me to just drop my phone into a cup holder in my car and get all my driving directions by just glancing at my watch. The Pebble even buzzes right before turns to get my attention. What a wonderfully handy app!

I’ve just completed my first 24 hours usage of my new Pebble Time. Here are some random observations on using it:

Notifications from my Samsung Galaxy Android phone work great. Calls, texts, and important emails are all brought to my attention in a very useful way and without much fuss.
