Your Pebble Time as Personal Assistant – Managing Notifications

Pebble Time with Michael – Day 4

Notify

My next favorite available feature of my new Pebble Time is the whole notification mechanism that’s available on it. SMS and Facebook messages, Google Now card updates, important emails, reminders, upcoming appointments, incoming phone calls, and voicemail messages are all quickly and simply brought to my attention by the buzzing of my watch. A quick glance empowers me to act upon or ignore the notification, based on how important and/or urgent it is for me. I also like the fact that the Pebble notification function allows me to remotely open a text message or email on my phone so that when I take it out of my pocket I’m all ready to deal with it as needed. However, one important thing I’ve learned about maximizing the effectiveness of the Pebble notification system is the need to install a 3rd party notification manager on my phone.

The default notification system of the Pebble Time phone application is just too limited. It restricts the notifications that can be passed onto the watch and doesn’t allow for any type of filtering of them. I happen to be using Pebble Notifier on my Samsung Galaxy at the moment, but there a whole bunch of notification managers available in the Google Play Store (and likely the Apple App Store) offering wide variety of enhancements to the normal notification system. Be sure to check them out if you would like to greatly enhance the effectiveness of Pebble Time notifications.

  1. Hi Michael! Just new to Pebble & thank you for your articles from a Pebble user’s perspective. Are you still using Pebble Notifier? On Google’s Play Store, the app developer mentions that he no longer supports this app. As I find Pebble’s stock notification app a bit lacking, I really wanted to use this app. Do you have other notification apps to recommend? TIA!

    • Yes, I still use Pebble Notifier and it still works just fine for me. There are lots of other alternative notification apps available, but I’ve only used Pebble Notifier. I suggest you just try some out for yourself and see what works best for you.
