Let Your Pebble Time Tell You Which Way is Which – with Compass

Pebble Time with Michael – Day 20

Compass

Just the other day my wife wanted to put one of her indoor plants by a north-facing window in our house. So she asked me, “Which way is north?”. For once I was able to immediately answer her because I had the Compass app installed on my Pebble Time.

Compass is one of those very simple, single-purpose applications that seem to become invaluable once you have them readily available to you. It does just what its title implies – it serves as a magnetic compass using the Pebble Time’s built-in compass hardware.

It’s also very nicely animated with a virtual spirit level that transforms the compass shown in the accompanying picture into a heading indicator when you move the watch from a horizontal to a vertical orientation. So if you’re looking down at your wrist, you see the compass. If you raise your wrist to in front of your face the app screen transforms into a current heading indicator.

Compass is very simple and straightforward, but also very handy for a wide variety of daily activities, especially outdoor activities. I highly recommend this app for your consideration as an addition to your own Pebble Time’s application library.

Let Your Pebble Time Track Package Deliveries – with the Deliveries App

Pebble Time with Michael – Day 19

Deliiveries

I’m always ordering things from the web, usually from Amazon. It seems that in any given week I’ve got one or more packages on their way to my home. Heck, it wasn’t that long ago that one such package was of extreme interest to me – the package from Pebble that contained my Pebble Time!

So over time I’ve used a variety of web-based and mobile device-based tools to track the status of incoming packages. I was very happy to discover one such app for my Pebble Time: Deliveries.

Monitor Your Pebble Time’s Battery Life – with Battery+

Pebble Time with Michael – Day 18

Battery+

Pebble Time battery life is always an interesting topic to discuss. Pebble itself claims “up to” 7 days battery life for the watch. I’ve read claims on the Internet of up to 12 days battery life for a Pebble Time. Yet after 18 days of usage of my Pebble Time I’ve never achieved more than 5 days, with just 4 days being the norm for me.

Now I don’t run my watch completely dry, usually charging it when I get to, or am about to get to, the 20% battery remaining warning screen. The one time I got 5 days usage out of my watch was when I ran it well past that warning screen, right down to less than 10% battery charge remaining.

Let Your Pebble Time Serve as a Convenient Timer – with Timer+

Pebble Time with Michael – Day 17

Timer+One simple device I use almost ever day is some kind of timer with an associated alarm. I time my morning walks, I time laundry, I time items we’re cooking, sometimes I even time naps! The Pebble Time Timer+ app provides this function for me in a very convenient manner.

Before I got my Pebble Time I typically used a timer app on my phone to provide this service to me. However, I’m finding that Timer+ works even better than the standard Android timer application and I’m using it almost exclusively now.
